CIVILIS / RAIL ESIMATOR (Various Levels)

They have a range of opportunities available for candidates with varying levels of experience in Estimating. Schemes can typically include civil engineering infrastructure and building works such as:

Under bridges, overbridges and footbridges, tunnels, flood alleviation & repairs, earthworks & embankments and rail platforms and station infrastructure as well as general reactive and planned maintenance works etc.

They currently have a number of live infrastructure projects and long-term renewals and maintenance frameworks underway including Civils Asset Management (CAM), Renewals Enhancement Framework (REF) and a Slabtrack framework.

 

The Role

As an Estimator at varying levels of experience, the key tasks and responsibilities of your role will include but not be limited to, supporting the pre-construction and estimating function with some of the key tasks outlined below:

  • Check Tender Information for completeness and raise potential areas of concern.
  • Produce quantity take-offs from tender information/drawings.
  • Preparation, using agreed company format, of Sub-contract & Material enquiry documentation. Forward documentation to Administration Department for formal enquiry issue.
  • Analysis of Sub-Contracts, supplier and merchant quotations – including “normalisation”
  • Analysis of benchmark data from historic projects/norms against the first principles tender build ups where possible.
  • Discuss and agree resourcing and works outputs with Planner, Bid Manager and delivery team working on the tender.
  • On occasions support the bid team by producing methodologies for works delivery to go with tender submissions.
  • Attend internal Bid Team meetings as required, i.e. tender launch, progress of bid, methodology, programme, risk, resource and programme requirements/aspirations.
  • Work closely with the tender team to ensure that the best possible tender is produced.
  • Liaise and work with the tender planner to ensure tender programme meets or exceeds the client’s programme/aspirations.
  • Preparation of tender/price using “first principal” estimating process.
  • Liaising with Sub-contractors, suppliers and merchants.
  • Produce a clear & understandable tender book/pricing document for internal adjudication/settlement.
  • Preparation of client’s tender pricing document(s) for submission.
  • Ensuring tender/price is presented to clients accurately and coherently, and to the commensurate level of detail required.
  • Prepare submission for final commercial review by team with senior staff.
  • Assist in compiling Client Post Tender clarification responses in a timely manner.
  • Handover to commercial team on successful bids.
  • Input into the post tender analysis process.

 

Requirements

  • To excel in this role, you will have previous experience in the construction industry, either as an Estimator or in an operational role looking to transition your career into pre-construction and work winning.
  • First Principles Estimating experience
  • Civil engineering project experience
  • Experience in a civil engineering and/or rail contractor organisation
  • Working knowledge of Excel (& Word) and Estimating software.
  • Rail experience would be beneficial but civils experience in other sectors such as highways will be considered.
  • Experience in a site based / operational role prior to your Estimating career would be a distinct benefit to the role including.

ASSISTANT QUANTITY SURVEYOR

Due to an increase in their workload on HS2, our client are seeking the services of an Assistant QS to support the commercial activity on these works.

The work being carried out major utility diversions, highway, concrete and structures.

The role will be based from their site offices in central London

Duties will include, but not limited to:

  • Carrying out the day to day administration of the commercial and financial aspects of projects.
  • Close liaison with the Project Management Team(s)
  • Preparing Cost and Value reporting
  • Preparing commercial performance reports
  • Manage procurement including labour, plant, materials and subcontract

A Fiber Optic Project Manager oversees all aspects of fibre optic installation projects, from planning to implementation and closeout. Main duties and responsibilities:

SITE ENGINEER

Due to the recent award of a number of Civil Engineering, Utility Diversion and Highways schemes in the Aylesbury region, our client, a top regional Contractor are seeking to recruit a permanent Site Engineer to join their team on these works.

Based from offices in Aylesbury and working on site with the Senior Engineer, your daily duties will include Setting Out, QA and assisting with paperwork whilst learning and developing for progression into a Section Engineer and beyond.

  • Highlighting subcontractors and materials that require lead times for design and materials.

  • Handle all subcontractor interactions in a manner designed to build a long-term relationship.
  • Build relationships with other departments within the company including Quantity Surveying, Project Management, Accounting, HSQE and Buying
  • Work with the pre-construction team to ensure that bids and proposals are competitive and have the greatest chance of winning.
  • Work alongside the Lead Estimator and other members of the Pre-Construction team to carry out day to day activities as required.

BID WRITER (CIVILS)

My client, a well-known Tier 1, Main Contractor are looking for candidates with experience of bid management in the civil engineering infrastructure sector.  The successful candidate can work form their head office in Swindon or their London office in Paddington.

Purpose of the Role

As part of the Submissions Team the primary function of the Bid Writer will be to lead on the development and production of winning PQQ and Tender written responses. A comprehensive understanding of how to formulate a technical response favourable (or beyond) to the Clients requirements and communicating this in both the written and visual spectrums.

Role Accountabilities

  • Produce written responses for PQQs and Tenders including; unique responses, references, case studies, CVs (in liaison with Bid Coordinators) and project experience.
  • Support the Head of Submissions and Bid Managers in the production of PQQ and Tender responses, and associated components.       Ensure compliance with the Work Winning processes and procedures to manage submissions and bid-related information.
  • Support briefings, kick-off meetings and progress meetings..
  • Ensuring all tender documentation is presented to a uniformly high standard, editing and proofreading submission documents, as well as (when required) coordinating and supporting in the production and finalisation of documents
  • Facilitate storyboarding sessions with subject matter experts, taking ownership to completion.
  • Prepare graphics such as flow charts, diagrams and organisation charts as required to support high standard submissions.
  • Ongoing support of contributors with content development and responses, by assessing whether the questions are being answered (1st drafts and red review process) in liaison with Bid Coordinators.
  • Provide feedback to the Head of Submissions, Bid Managers and Bid Coordinators of progress with responses.
  • Create the final publication, and with the team, ensure the bid is delivered to the client on time.
  • Maintain Themis (Document Management System) ensuring a complete record of the submission is maintained for future review or scrutiny.
  • Identify and re-work existing pre-written content where relevant.
  • Assist with Knowledge Management within the company using Themis.
  • Work to demanding and changeable deadlines, in a highly pressured environment.

BID MANAGER (CIVILS)

My client, a well know Tier 1, Main Contractor are looking for candidates with experience of bid management in the civil engineering infrastructure sector.  The secessful candiadte can work form their head office in Swindon or their London office in Paddington.

Purpose of the Role

As part of the Submissions Team the primary function of the Bid Manager will actively manage and win tender opportunities and provide clear leadership and direction for all members of the bid team.

Role Accountabilities

  • Drive and energise the bid team to achieve a successful outcome for each allocated tender. Following designated processes and best practice in place within organisation.
  • Ensure that a coherent bid strategy in developed, working in conjunction with the Business Development Manager and Sector Director.
  • Continually evaluate winning strategy and direct team and resources to focus on activities which will enhance chance of bid success.
  • Oversee and be involved with tender commercial strategy.
  • Arrange all necessary internal meetings – Kick off / Settlement and others identified in work winning process. (use MS Outlook)
  • Agree Bid Budget and monitor expenditure with Head of Management
  • Manage tender programme.
  • Ensure Company & Group governance and procedures are adhered to.
  • Ensures production of CRC documentation for issue to Head of Bid Management.
  • Produce actions and appoint individuals to complete relevant items arising from the meetings / minutes. Drive actions to completion.
  • Undertake corporate approval process in conjunction with Work Winning Director.
  • Communication link to Client / Employers Agent + when we speak and don’t speak with Third Parties.
  • Keep senior management informed of development on tender and gain acceptance of key decision points.

  • Oversee designers Brief in conjunction with Technical Services.

  • Arrange and co-ordinate tender and post-tender meetings / interviews with the Client / Employers Agent.
  • Ensure that the correct resources for the Quality Submission are in place and that timescales are met. (Deliverables tracker in place prior to kick off).
  • Manage / take part in the review of the Quality Submission.
  • Tender feedback and dissemination once the result is known.
  • Handover to the project delivery team for successful tenders.
  • Use and follow formal meeting agendas and save presentations as power-point slides onto corporate database.

BIM COORDINATOR / TEHCNICIAN

My client, a Tier 1 Main Contractor are hiring a permanent employed BIM Coordinator Technician to work from their Head Office in Swindon.  The role will be working on major civil infrastructure projects and you will reporting to the BIM Manager.

Purpose of the Role

To support the clients implementation of BIM processes at a Project Level by producing and/or amending information and graphical models in accordance with the standard methods and procedures.

Delivering and supporting the Project team in delivering beneficial secondary benefits from the Information model (i.e. 4D schedules, Quantity take-offs, still images) and supporting the BIM Manager and Coordinator in executing the successful delivery of a BIM Project

Role Accountabilities

Creating files and ensuring the appropriate file attributes are captured correctly. Producing and / or amending information in accordance with the Project SMP.

Ensuring graphical models (they produce) are spatially coordinated (clash avoidance); escalating any interface issues to the BIM Coordinator / BIM manager

Ensuring all elements of the Information Model are fully coordinated with each other.

Submitting information for approval in accordance with the TIDP.

Additional Duties

Supporting and deputising for the BIM Coordinator or BIM Manager, where required and appropriate.

Undertaking appropriate works requested by the BIM Development Manager for the benefit of the wider company.

Any other duties consistent with your status and seniority, as necessary to meet the needs of the Business of the Company.

Carry out duties for collaborative working in line with the client procedure for Collaborative Working and the JRMP (Joint Relationship Management Plan).

Required Project Knowledge

Knowledge of construction activities and infrastructure projects.

Knowledge of infrastructure design processes.

Identify, interpret and apply required industry/ client/ internal CAD standard
