The role:
- Manage the financial and contractual performance of projects.

- Identify and manage risks and opportunities effectively.

About you:
- Proven success in Quantity Surveying role.
- Experience in a civil engineering environment, preferably Highways.

The role
If you are an experienced Business Development Manager within the Civil Engineering sector.
You will be experienced in establishing and maintaining regular dialogue with new and existing customers and identify, assess and cultivate new client leads/opportunities that fit with the overall business strategy and market sectors to enable the company to grow in line with the business plan.
You will also lead on sector pipeline meetings, prepare and distribute suitable minutes / actions to discuss current and future opportunities.
The role may require you to travel to various project sites and have flexibility to work extended hours as needed. The primary locations for this role will be either Swindon or London.
About you
It is essential that you have sound knowledge of the UK construction market and of relevant and up to date procurement legislation along with strong knowledge of Civil Engineering.

Senior Estimator
Due to my client’s business expansion, they are seeking a Senior Estimator. As a Senior Estimator, you will be working on civil engineering tenders, developing precise and competitive estimates for projects involving roads, sewers, drainage, utilities, and reinforced concrete structures.
They are one of the biggest family owned construction businesses in the UK with a turnover close to £500m per year
Here are some of the activities you will be involved with:
- Review tender requirements, focusing on scope of works, attending site visits and collaborating with the Bid and Operational Support Teams, coordinating with Estimating Buyer on material costs and subcontractor quotes.
- Support the Estimators and Junior members of the team in preparing and comparing detailed subcontractor pricing packages.
- Submit technical queries to clients for tender clarity and review client pricing schedules to ensure alignment with scope.
- Conduct take-offs as needed for Bill of Quantities or Activity Schedules.
- Prepare estimates for in-house work and assess subcontractor quotes for specialist tasks
- Draft bid assumptions, qualifications, and exclusions and identify project risks, compile risk register, and review utility and geotechnical data.
- Finalise and include pricing documents (e.g., Schedule of Costs, Daywork Rates).
- Attend post-tender meetings, respond to pricing queries, and track submission updates.
- Prepare pricing handover file and brief Operations Team on tender details.
I’m keen to hear from candidates who can demonstrate:
Expertise in civil engineering projects, with a focus on self-delivery works such as earthworks, roadworks, kerbing, footpaths, sewers, drainage, pipeline construction, and utility installations.
Proficiency in Excel and experience using pricing software such as Conquest, Causeway, Candy, or similar.
Familiarity with key contract terms and conditions, including NEC 4 and JCT ICE, as well as an understanding of measurement methods, particularly regarding rate inclusions.

Quantity Surveyor
The role
My client operates within the civil engineering, infrastructure and building services sector. They require Quantity Surveyors to join their Commercial team to work on their recently awarded project on Sizewell C.
You will be responsible for all allocated commercial and contractual matters on the contract and should be able to effectively manage an assistant surveyor to successfully deliver the project.
About you
You will hold an accredited course by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS, the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) or the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (ICES).
Adequate experience as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor and ready to take the step up into a Quantity Surveyor role will be considered

You will play a pivotal role in achieving their vision of delivering brilliant infrastructure solutions whilst developing your career in quantity surveying within a supportive and professional environment.
You will be assisting in the management of commercial responsibilities in order to maximise profit and control costs.

The team are now looking for a Senior Estimator to join them on a permanent basis. You will support with the preparations of detailed and accurate pricing for tenders and assist clients with pricing support for early contractor involvement projects.
You will ensure company governance procedures are followed at all times and work in coordination with the Bid Manager to ensure competitive pricing. You will be required to agree methodologies and outputs for key activities with planners and, where appropriate, with Bid Manager / Design Manger and provide advice to Bid Manager/Design Manager on most cost-effective design options.
The role requires you to produce competitive price using methodologies and outputs etc to suit conditions / situations relevant to the scheme and advise the Bid Manager of sufficiency of client bill of quantity / activity schedule and arrange for full quantity take off or checking as required.

The team are now looking for an Underground Works/Preparation Methods Engineer to join their business on a Full Time employed basis
This role is pivotal in the preparation and submission of tenders for large-scale underground construction projects and will be responsible for planning, designing, and overseeing engineering projects focused on tunnel and underground constructions, ensuring deliverables are met within the specified timelines and budgets.
You will prepare technical proposals and work plans, including risk assessments and mitigation strategies and collaborate with the project management and business development teams to ensure compliance with client requirements.

The project requires a Design Engineer (Design Coordination) to manage consult design activities and deliverables to ensure they are completed in line with the agreed programme and Client requirements.
You will be the technical lead for the permanent works design on the project unless a Design Manager is present.
You will be responsible for managing and communicating all design queries, comments and information required from design workshops and meetings and keep records accordingly. Within the role you will arrange internal design interface meetings with the construction department and ensure compliance with design management processes as required by the contract.
Within this role, you will be required to have a background or previous experience in design management. Technical knowledge of civil engineering/construction would also be beneficial.
You will have a comprehensive communication and organisation skills and the ability to engage with consultants, clients and other bodies as appropriate.

The project requires a Quality Engineer to support the implementing, maintaining and improvement of the Project Management System providing support and advice to the Project team on quality management matters.
You will be required to interpret and advise on quality system requirements for the Project while utilising quality management tools and techniques to promote continuous improvements throughout the Project team. You will coordinate with the Client’s quality management team and undertake internal project audits and supplier audits as and when necessary.
This role requires you to have previous experience of working as a Section Engineer as a minimum and preferably working towards membership to the Chartered Quality Institute and successful completion of lead auditor course (5 day) for ISO 9001.
You must have a thorough understanding of civil engineering construction methodology and a detailed knowledge of assurance and management system issues and a good understanding of process mapping techniques.
Strong practical knowledge and expertise in the implementation and on-going development of management systems, based on recognised standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001 or BS OHSAS 18001 is beneficial for this role.

The project requires a Surveyor who will be responsible for the monitoring and surveying activities on site in a safe and efficient way.
If this role is for you, you will liaise with the client to check the setting out information being used is the latest available and provide the existing site control to the construction team, and / or establishing site control where required.
The role will require you to ensure data, reports and/or drawings of setting out and as-built surveys are produced accurately and in a timely manner and ensure difficult setting out tasks and dimensional check of elements are delivered with high accuracy requirements.
It is essential that you have a Civil Engineering Degree or similar with at least 3 years of experience. Advanced geodetic surveying and deformation monitoring skills are also required.
You will need to apply technical and practical skills to implement the requirements of drawings and specifications and ensure work is produced within clear guidelines, set goals and strive to achieve required results consistently.
You must have good knowledge of legislation, hazards and safe systems of work and have the ability to prioritise objectives and capable of completing work to deadlines.
