My client are seeking multiple Tunnelling Site / Shift Engineers on their Snowdonia Visual Improvement Tunnel project in North Wales. The project is due to operate a 2-shift pattern and a shift premium will apply.
The project will consider candidates with different levels of experience and you do not have to have tunnelling experience but this is desirable.
You will be involved in the development of work plans, temporary work conception, manage and optimise the construction of TBM-driven tunnels from installation to demobilisation. To ensure health and safety is given the highest priority in the delivery of the works.
It will be essential that you have an Engineering Degree/Higher National Certificate (HNC) or similar in a construction discipline. You will also have substantial experience with onsite experience within the Civil Construction Industry.
On top of the salary being offered, you will receive a Company Car/Car Allowance + shift premium, accommodation allowance and living allowance.

My client are a leading international civil engineering company, specialising in complex market segments such as Transportation, Energy, Tunnelling, Building, Civil and Structural Engineering.
About the role
My client are looking to expand their team with skilled and enthusiastic individuals to deliver a tunnelling project in the beautiful region of Snowdonia, North Wales. Their work will significantly enhance the visual impact of the area, burying a network of overhead cables and removing several pylons to restore and protect the natural beauty, wildlife and environmental heritage of this precious landscape.
The project requires an on-site Human Resources Advisor to adopt the first line contact and support for all project resources on HR and employee relations matters. You will be required to advise, support, influence and where appropriate, challenge managers on operational decisions to facilitate their following of HR best practice in activities including: recruitment, disciplinary, grievance, induction and training. You will take the lead on championing Equality, Diversity and Respect on the project and will have experience in working in a single site HR Advisor role or a small cluster role.
About you
You should be qualified to at least a Level 3 CIPD qualification and be able to demonstrate a proven track record in managing a wide variety of HR related issues. You must be confident in building strong credible relationships with managers, acting as a mentor when advising on all people issues, plans and strategies where appropriate.
Previous experience of working in a Civil Engineering/Tunnelling organisation is desirable but not essential.

TUNELLING SITE ENGINEER

You will be required lodge away and this will be provided by the client. In addition to a competitive salary, you will receive a company car or car allowance + a competitive benefits package
TBM / Site Activities
Management and compliance with TBM related issues such as TBM guidance, ring selection, face pressure, among other activities to ensure TBM operating requirements are adhered to.
Detailed knowledge and understanding of the Permit to Tunnel and Daily Briefing and ensure any actions, controls or findings are implemented and followed accordingly by operators and supervision
Observation of ground conditions, monitoring and review of material in the STP and noting any changes, significant or otherwise, and communicate to Sub-Agent/Agent and capture on shift report.
Assist the Sub-Agent in co-ordination of crane activities including TBM assembly, launch and disassembly in conjunction with Lift Supervisors and Lifting Coordinators.
Be conversant with all drawings, specification and related information for the works under their control, asking for advice when unsure and speaking up when not complying.

QUALITY MANAGER

Purpose of the Role
- To carry out quality planning and produce a framework that the project can use to provide a quality product.
- To ensure that quality and management system requirements are delivered.
- To ensure that the works are as specified and that the required testing and commissioning has taken place.
- To provide Governance support to site team as required e.g. GDPR, Data Protection and other compliance issues as required.
- To manage the Assurance process to ensure that the project works can be properly certified as correct to the client.
- To manage and drive Improvement activities to assist the project in meeting its goals.
- To provide support and advice on Quality within the Context of the project including best practice and lessons learnt activity.
- To manage the document control function (if required)
Role Accountabilities
- Mentor Quality Engineers and other subordinate staff and assist in their development.
- (Where Required) Lead the document control function and ensure all documentation and records are properly controlled.
- (Where required) Act as the local representative for GDPR and Data Protection matters
- Develop project specific management system plans and procedures where required.
- Carry out quality planning activities including developing a Quality Plan and carrying out an assessment of Quality Risks
- Develop and maintain a team to carry out appropriate quality management activities.
- Be responsible for all project assurance matters including the certification of each element of the works.
- Take accountability for the quality measurement devices, ensuring that they are fit for purpose. Be able to take required action in the event of measurements from a device becoming uncertain.
- Maintain a Log of all non-conformities and ensure that these are progressed to closure in a timely basis.
- Manage the Non-Conformance Reporting (NCR) process and track each Non-Conformity (Whether Defect, NCR, Snag or Outstanding works to ensure that they are satisfactorily completed by the site team(s)
- Assist in the production of Operation and Maintenance Manuals and Health and Safety File for handover to the client.
- Manage the production of “Red-line” drawings from the site team and, if necessary, manage the process to turn them into “As built” status.
- Manage the inspection and test plan (ITP) submittal and approval process including tracking the progress to completion of each ITP.
- Prepare and maintain a project audit and surveillance plan
- Develop a project specific assurance regime in line with company requirements
- Lead regular quality meetings with the purpose of improving quality management on the project.
- Produce and agree a project quality improvement plan to address major quality risks and lessons learnt and then support the project manager in implementing this plan.
- Arrange and facilitate regular “lessons learnt” forums and ensure that the results are recorded and disseminated to the project team and wider stakeholders
- Collect and trend relevant quality data, analyse and report this with a view to making improvements and reducing repeat mistakes

Required Project knowledge
- Comprehensive understanding of project administration procedures.
- Comprehensive understanding of document control processes and procedures including knowledge of ISO 19650
- Computer literate (Particularly Excel and Word)
- Familiarity with using EDMS systems
- Basic understanding of Integrated Management System (IMS)
- Basic understanding of the project delivery objectives
- Familiarity with using EDMS systems (Themis/Projectwise/4Projects/A-Site e.t.c)
- Understanding of the purpose and importance of accurate document control in a commercial and assurance context

The Role
- You should have proven experience on large mechanical, electrical and ventilation building experience.
- Proven experience on large building projects included attention to architectural detail
- Tier 1 Main Contract Design management experience delivering building projects.
- On-site position (Lodge will be provided)
- Provide construction-conscious direction and instruction to Architectural & MEP Design team during the different RIBA stages.
- Review design to minimising complex details and interfaces involving multiple trades and subcontractor.
- Work closely with the Construction team and lead the CDM designer hazard review process.
- Manage the Design Programme and ensure adherence to same.
- Develop & compile documentation for inclusion within the contractor’s proposals or scope deviations.
- Ensure that the requirements of the Design Management Plan (DMP) and the BIM Execution Plan (BEP) and Client requirements are achieved by all specialist design subcontractors and main Designer.
- Assist in the commercial and technical review of specialist subcontract tender returns.
- Respond and manage site queries and field changes.
- Previous National Grid experience advantages .
- High voltage experience will be advantage.

HEALTH, SAFETY & WELLBEING
The role will be to lead and be accountable for the health and safety on SVIP Project, ensuring all individuals are provided with appropriate leadership and support.
Reporting to the Project Director, the role currently has 2 x H&S Advisers in place in support. Previous experience on major infrastructure projects and ideally tunnel projects is required.
Role Accountabilities
Establish and provide leadership in best practice in safety, health and Sustainability matters on the Project
Advise and support SVIP Directors, Managers and Supervisors to discharge their H&S responsibilities regarding their employees and others to whom they have a duty as defined by legislation and HUK procedures.
Ensure management controls are in place so that all personnel are aware of their statutory duties and responsibilities and to provide advice as and when required.
Take a lead with site management teams to ensure compliance with all requirements stipulated by HUK
Manage & carry out surveillance/ regular inspections/ audits of sites and workplaces to determine whether work is being carried out in accordance with policy, procedures and the relevant statutory provisions. Where appropriate make recommendations for improvement.
Lead, partake and oversee accident/ incident investigations in accordance with the procedure and, analysing all data, making recommendations to avoid any reoccurrences.
Manage, collate & review H&S statistics on SVIP to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Develop and implement lessons learnt sessions, H&S campaigns and improvement plans in agreement with procedure.
Manage and where required be involved in the preparation & review of documents including H&S plans and procedures, methods statements and those of 3rd parties.
Maintain records as necessary to ensure compliance with legislation, Procedures and contract requirements
Provide reports, presentations and information as directed
Ensure compliance with all relevant schedule of partners KPIs
Stop work at any time H&S elements of the works are in question
Develop, organise and oversee the induction process; ensuring everyone at SVIP has attended a project induction and a BRAVE day.

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating/chairing working groups and steering groups, and will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, clients, and stakeholders to drive project success and exceed expectations.

Proficiency in project management tools and software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera, Jira) and Microsoft Office suite.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
PMP or equivalent project management certification is a plus.
Section Foreman-North Wales-To £50K + Car + Bens + Lodge If Required
Due to an increase in workload on a highly prestigious tunnelling project in the North of Wales, our client is seeking to secure the services of a Foreman to work on the Shaft Sinking and then onto the Tunnelling works.
Based from site, you will be responsible for overseeing labour on site, tool box talks, inductions and health & safety.
To be considered you will hold SSSTS and CSCS. You MUST have experience in Tunnelling, with Tunnelling Certification preferred but not essential.

Sub Agent
I have been given a freelance Sub Agent role by one of my top clients who are working on £370m Tunnelling scheme in Snowdonia which I am sure you will know about.
They have a section of works to Construct Workers Accommodation including Roads, Drainage, Service Installation and Construction of the actual Accommodation and require a Sub Agent to oversee these works.
Duties include:
- Preparation of RAMs
- Overseeing Sub Contractors,
- Material Ordering,
- Reporting etc.
This is for 6-9 months initially and will likely lead on to further works with the project running until 2029.
Rate is circa £400-425 Per Day and is Outside IR35.

Quantity Surveyor
My client has been awarded a GBP 207 million (EUR 240 million) power supply tunnel project by National Grid in Wales. The project is part of the Visual Impact Provision project in the Snowdonia National Park near Porthmadog in the north of the country.
This seven-year project will see the construction of two shafts and 3.4 kilometres tunnel to carry electricity under the Dwyryd Estuary. The project has been developed to reduce the visual impact of National Grid’s overhead line across the estuary. The project will run into 2029.
My client would like a QS with a couple of years experience, preferably project-based experience with CSCS card.
Purpose of the role
To take supervised responsibility for the commercial function on the project or section of project.
To contribute to a result as agreed with local commercial management.
To protect the company’s position throughout 360 degree relationships.
To carry out commercial tasks and present results in an orderly and accurate format.
