Acting as Principal Contractor and undertaking much of the work through self-delivery, the role demands a strong understanding of engineering principles, on-site execution, and compliance in highly regulated environments. You will play a key role in ensuring that works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the correct technical and quality standards.
- You should be able to carry out setting out and engineering duties as directed by the Site Manager, ensuring works are delivered to specification and design.
- Oversee technical quality and installation standards through inspection and test plans, ensuring compliance with relevant specifications.

- Support safe site operations by ensuring compliance with Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental procedures.
- Ensure equipment and instrumentation is properly calibrated and maintained.
- Input into programme updates, KPIs, material reconciliation, and reporting, supporting efficient delivery and cost control.
- Contribute to planning and daily site management, liaising with site teams and subcontractors.
- Maintain understanding of and compliance with project management systems, including the Construction Phase H&S Plan, Environmental and Quality Plans.
If you’re a degree-qualified (or equivalent) civil engineer with hands-on experience in the civils or utilities sector this could be a great role for you. You should be confident in setting out, surveying, managing quality, and producing inspection and test plans. A CSCS Card and Full UK Driving Licence are also required.
You’ll need a solid grasp of CDM regulations, health and safety, and a collaborative, solutions-focused approach. Strong communication, planning and organisational skills are essential.
Ideally, you’ll have or be working towards chartership (ICE, CIOB, CIHT or APM) and hold additional qualifications such as SMSTS/SSSTS, Temporary Works Supervisor, or training in Confined Spaces and NRSWA.
