CIVILIS / RAIL ESIMATOR (Various Levels)

My client have an exciting opportunity for civil engineering Estimators at various levels to join an established and growing Scotland business unit looking to bolster the Pre-Construction Estimating department in the region.

They have a range of opportunities available for candidates with varying levels of experience in Estimating. Their Pre-Construction Estimating team are involved in estimating a variety of projects and frameworks in a multitude of rail and non-rail infrastructure workstreams, including Civil Engineering, Rail, Rail Systems & Construction.

 

A busy and fast paced region involved in a range of projects at pre-contract/tender stage covering rail infrastructure work inclusive of but not limited to civil engineering & building works, Mechanical & Electrical, Electrification & Plant works. They are dedicated to delivering projects across a variety of sectors with typical works including bridges and footbridges, embankments, station improvements, platforms, tunnels, electrification etc. The team are involved in multi-disciplinary capital delivery projects and maintenance works for civils and buildings infrastructure throughout the Scotland rail network, whether one off tendered projects or projects within our long term maintenance framework / contract agreements with Network Rail.

Schemes can typically include civil engineering infrastructure and building works such as:

Under bridges, overbridges and footbridges, tunnels, flood alleviation & repairs, earthworks & embankments and rail platforms and station infrastructure as well as general reactive and planned maintenance works etc.

They currently have a number of live infrastructure projects and long-term renewals and maintenance frameworks underway including Civils Asset Management (CAM), Renewals Enhancement Framework (REF) and a Slabtrack framework.

 

The Role

As an Estimator at varying levels of experience, the key tasks and responsibilities of your role will include but not be limited to, supporting the pre-construction and estimating function with some of the key tasks outlined below:

  • Check Tender Information for completeness and raise potential areas of concern.
  • Produce quantity take-offs from tender information/drawings.
  • Preparation, using agreed company format, of Sub-contract & Material enquiry documentation. Forward documentation to Administration Department for formal enquiry issue.
  • Analysis of Sub-Contracts, supplier and merchant quotations – including “normalisation”
  • Analysis of benchmark data from historic projects/norms against the first principles tender build ups where possible.
  • Discuss and agree resourcing and works outputs with Planner, Bid Manager and delivery team working on the tender.
  • On occasions support the bid team by producing methodologies for works delivery to go with tender submissions.
  • Attend internal Bid Team meetings as required, i.e. tender launch, progress of bid, methodology, programme, risk, resource and programme requirements/aspirations.
  • Work closely with the tender team to ensure that the best possible tender is produced.
  • Liaise and work with the tender planner to ensure tender programme meets or exceeds the client’s programme/aspirations.
  • Preparation of tender/price using “first principal” estimating process.
  • Liaising with Sub-contractors, suppliers and merchants.
  • Produce a clear & understandable tender book/pricing document for internal adjudication/settlement.
  • Preparation of client’s tender pricing document(s) for submission.
  • Ensuring tender/price is presented to clients accurately and coherently, and to the commensurate level of detail required.
  • Prepare submission for final commercial review by team with senior staff.
  • Assist in compiling Client Post Tender clarification responses in a timely manner.
  • Handover to commercial team on successful bids.
  • Input into the post tender analysis process.

 

Requirements

  • To excel in this role, you will have previous experience in the construction industry, either as an Estimator or in an operational role looking to transition your career into pre-construction and work winning.
  • First Principles Estimating experience
  • Civil engineering project experience
  • Experience in a civil engineering and/or rail contractor organisation
  • Working knowledge of Excel (& Word) and Estimating software.
  • Rail experience would be beneficial but civils experience in other sectors such as highways will be considered.
  • Experience in a site based / operational role prior to your Estimating career would be a distinct benefit to the role including.

MOBILE COMMISSIONING ENGINEER

My client, a tier 1, main contractor requires a Commissioning Engineer, you’ll be instrumental in driving the successful commissioning of their assets which includes Motor Control Centres, Pumping Plant, Process Equipment, Standby Generation Equipment and various other instrumentation.

As a Commissioning Engineer, you will be working across Scotland on initially their smaller and then moving to larger assets. This is a stand-alone role that requires effective communication with their teams, simulating their assets and reporting back on their functionality. You will be responsible for ensuring the assets are working as they should.

This position will require regional travel across Scotland. They will provide a van, fuel card, accommodation, evening meal and breakfast while you are working away.

Your remit is to contribute to the preparation of Commissioning Plans, Review P&ID diagrams, and liaise with suppliers and subcontractors throughout the commissioning process.

In this role you will be given the chance to demonstrate your skills and expertise. What’s important to you is ensuring the successful functioning of the assets. You can expect to be involved in the full plant instrumentation and control simulation and ensuring that our assets are fully operational and functioning as required.

Key Requirements

Valid CSCS card or a SHEA Water Card

Knowledge of PLC software packages is essential

Preferably demonstrable experience of working within the water and / or sewage industries

Good IT skills including familiarity with the Microsoft packages

Previous experience of commissioning installations (M&E) in line with industry standards

Site Manager-Western Isles (Scotland)

Our client, a major Utility Provider in the UK are seeking to secure the services of a Site Manager for works in Northern Scotland in the Western Isles. Works to include

Duties will include Health & Safety, Undertaking Safety Audits, Ensuring projects are running to Cost and Safety, Material and Plant Ordering, Labour Procurement and regular Reporting.

To be considered, you will have Management experience in Clean Water Rehabilitation works and Streetworks. Certs will include DOM-S, Water Hygene, NRSWA and CSCS. This is a mixture of office and site based so you must be prepared for both of these aspects of working also.

In return, an immediate start and long term contract is on offer.
