Due to an increase in workload on their HS2 works in Birmingham, our client a major Utility Contractor in the UK are looking for a Health & Safety Advisor to support Utility Diversion works in Birmingham.

Duties to include:

  • Ensure effective implementation of safety, health, and environmental systems and procedures for legal compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to the business management system and applicable processes.
  • Identify and report any gaps in documentation, competence, and systems using the appropriate change request procedure.
  • Deliver on the published annual SHE business-specific ‘Targets and Objectives’ to ensure continual improvement.
  • Participate in external audits/verification of company accreditations.

To be considered for this role, you will hold NEBOSH and ideally Tech IOSH and have experience in working with Management systems including ISO9001. You will also ideally have Utilities or Civil Engineering experience with HS2 an advantage but not essential.

Site Engineer-Birmingham

Based between site and office, your daily duties will include Setting Out, Supervision of Contractors, QA, Health & Safety and assisting with Paperwork where required.

To be considered for this role, you will have a minimum of an HNC in Civil Engineering and will have CSCS certification as a minimum with SSSTS/SMSTS an advantage. You will also have solid all round Civil Engineering exposure gained within the Main Contracting environment.

Quantity Surveyor

I’m working with an excellent client that require a Quantity Surveyor to work within their Rail & Civil Engineering, Asset Management team.

They’re looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team within a fast-paced rail, civil engineering, and buildings asset management environment, based in Tamworth. This role is a part of the CP7 framework, with a focus on the North West & Central region.

This business unit operates in an active and fast-moving rail, civils, and buildings asset maintenance, management landscape. They manage both reactive and planned maintenance projects across the North West & Central rail network. Their offices in Warrington and Tamworth serve as the headquarters for our operations, where they undertake various types of projects, including the maintenance and repair of bridges, tunnels, structures, stations, embankments, and more.

Role Responsibilities

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will play a vital role in the Framework Delivery team, focusing on local rail maintenance initiatives while also supporting other projects in the region. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with the commercial team and providing support to Senior Quantity Surveyors and Commercial Managers in managing multiple sites efficiently and within budget.
  • Accurately pricing and submitting estimates on time.
  • Resolving pricing queries and issues with clients.
  • Engaging in client communication and relationship management.
  • Coordinating with Site Managers to gather operational information.
  • Managing subcontractors and their performance.
  • Overseeing change management processes and early warnings.
  • Administering contracts (NEC/NR forms).
  • Preparing and reviewing Cost Value Reports (CVRs).
  • Contributing to final account processes.
  • Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within a rail and civil engineering environment.
  • Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management (HNC/HND/Degree).
  • Experience with civil engineering projects, including rail, bridges, roads, and structures.
  • Familiarity with rail projects (particularly Network Rail projects or maintenance frameworks).
  • Strong understanding of contractual management with NEC or bespoke NR forms of contract.
  • Demonstrated experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within a contractor organisation.

COMMERCIAL MANAGER

The role:

As the Commercial Manager you will oversee and manage the cost management and contract management aspects of a section of the project from initiation to close-out. This role is working on Curzon St Station.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee procurement and contract award for subcontractors and subconsultants
    Administer contractual terms and conditions for suppliers and sub-contractors
  • Manage and supervise commercial staff in the team
  • Administer incentivisation arrangements as appropriate
  • Oversee the assessment of EWN’s and compensation events
  • Provide regular cash flow forecast of expenditure
  • Report expenditure against the Incentive Target on a monthly basis
  • Manage the change management process consult with other functions to assess changes and risks to the overall project out-turn
  • Produce of a monthly consolidated project-wide cost / expenditure report
  • Manage the monthly valuation process.
  • Manage potential contractor and supplier claims.
  • Manage the adjudication of claims and make recommendations for settlement.
  • Oversee the finalisation of contractor’s accounts and close out contractor contracts for the project.
  • Manage the process to raise consultant, supplier or contractor instructions as necessary for signature by approved parties.
  • Manage the financial contingency built into packages and ensure that contingency allowances reflect the current programme position.

 

Qualifications, Certifications and Experience:

  • Strong commercial management experience
  • Past experience of major (£100m+) projects
  • Formal qualification RICS

  • Ability to present confidently to senior management
  • Expert knowledge of all aspects of commercial management
  • Familiarity with various forms of NEC contract
