We are seeking an experienced Cable Jointing Mate to support day-to-day jointing activities associated with new connections, transfers and disconnections on DNO Low Voltage Networks. The successful candidate will work alongside qualified jointers and site teams, ensuring all works are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with NERS operational standards.

Key Responsibilities:

To assist in cable jointing tasks for new connections, transfers and disconnections on any DNO’s low voltage network.

Experience in preparing cables, cut outs and routine electrical testing.

Able to read and understand utility drawings.

To ensure all work is undertaken in line with NERS operational procedures and method statements.

To carry out risk assessments and all necessary paperwork.

Understanding of COSHH, H&S and NRSWA.

Carry out safe practice excavation and temporary reinstatement

To work safely at all times and to ensure safety of others.

Civils Trades – Cable Jointer

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Cable Jointer to carry out jointing works on DNO Low Voltage networks for both metered and unmetered new connections, transfers, alterations and disconnections. The successful candidate will ensure all works are delivered safely, to high quality standards and in line with NERS operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out cable jointing tasks for new electrical connections, metered & unmetered services, disconnections and transfers on DNO low voltage networks.
  • Locate, identify and excavate around underground cables using safe systems of work.
  • Perform electrical testing including insulation resistance, voltage testing, phasing, phase rotation and cable continuity checks.
  • Read, interpret and work accurately from 1:500 statutory drawings, utility plans and job specifications.
  • Ensure all works are completed in compliance with relevant Health & Safety legislation and industry standards.
  • Work strictly in accordance with NERS operational procedures, method statements and risk control measures.
  • Complete site risk assessments, permits and all associated documentation to a high standard.
  • Record test results, cable routes, joint positions, asset data and plant details accurately using internal management systems.
  • Ensure projects are completed to agreed specifications, programme deadlines and quality expectations.
  • Support a safe working environment at all times, ensuring the safety of yourself, colleagues and the public.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrable experience as a Cable Jointer within the power distribution, utilities or electrical infrastructure sector.
  • Competent understanding of LV network jointing practices and technical standards.
  • Strong knowledge of SSE Network requirements (preferred).
  • Excellent attention to detail and confident in producing accurate site documentation.

QUANTITY SURVEYOR

Solution have a freelance need for a Quantity Surveyor to join a major Regional Contractor who have works on the port of Dover which include Berth reconstruction, access roads, drainage upgrade etc.

NEC form of contract being used with duties including overseeing sub contractor accounts, issuing payments, cost reporting and variations/claims.

QUANTITY SURVEYOR

Quantity Surveyor

Are you an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a strong background in Utilities, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering, ideally within the water industry?  Are you experienced managing high-volume, low-value works, as well as knowledge of NEC contract schemes and subcontractor management?
I have an exciting opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor to join a well-established contractor working on long-term framework projects in Kent

The Role:
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will gain invaluable experience and exposure to Capital & Operation Expenditure budgets and the balance between the two, understanding Total Expenditure and the ever-increasing role it plays in the utilities environment

 Responsibilities:

  • Generating weekly revenue and cost reports
  • Controlling submissions of daily completed jobs
  • Producing ‘Schedule of Rates’
  • Reconciling Subcontractor costs and preparing payment certificates
  • Liaising with Operations and Planning to monitor job progress and scope changes
  • Reviewing scheme works to ensure targets are on track to be achieved
  • Pricing completed jobs for high volume works
  • Developing relationships with clients to ‘Work In Progress’ days
  • Analysing weekly and monthly cost and revenue data

You’ll need to be enthusiastic, proactive, and a great problem solver, with excellent communication and relationship-building skills. Strong Microsoft Excel expertise is essential, including proficiency in formulas, pivot tables, and VLOOKUPs, along with a keen eye for data integrity and financial analysis.

A degree in Quantity Surveying or an HNC/HND in Civil or Mechanical Engineering with commercial management experience would be highly desirable.

Senior Quantity Surveyor

Due to an increase in work within their Southern Water Framework, our client, a top Utility Contractor in the UK have the need for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to support works which include Mains Replacements, New Mains Installations, Pumping Stations and associated Civils works.

Based from their offices in Maidstone, daily duties will include Overseeing Sub Contractor Accounts, Issuing Payments, Variations and CVRs.

To be considered for this role you will have a minimum of an HNC in Quantity Surveying and will have experience in the Civil Engineering and specifically the Water sector gained with Main Contractors.

In return, a top day rate is on offer which is Outside IR35 and comes with an immediate start and ongoing contract.

Maintenance Technician (Electronics)

The role

To assist in the efficient operation of the M25 Tunnels by undertaking maintenance and other tasks as required by the Shift Manager

This is a 4 days on – 4 days off. 12 hour shift, 2 days, 2 nights, 4 off

  • To be conversant with Plant Monitoring and Control Systems, including SCADA, PLCs, I/O, networking etc.
  • To be conversant with a range of electronic / technology equipment including CCTV, incident detection, radio rebroadcast, telephone networks, fire alarm systems, air monitoring etc. within the Dartford River Crossing and other M25 Tunnels, under normal and emergency conditions.
  • Repair and maintenance of the traffic safety system on the approach to the Dartford tunnels including sensors, barriers and traffic signals.
  • To complete any records as required, including daily worksheets, and maintenance report sheets
  • To read drawings and carry out fault finding and repairs without supervision
  • Carry out any work of a manual, semi-skilled or skilled nature of any type of trade description (including “out of trade” work) under the instructions of the Shift Manager
  • Drive vehicles as required, for maintenance purposes
  • Attend incidents and work safely in accordance with policies to facilitate the early clear up of hazard/incident

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Recognised Electronic or Technology Qualifications or Apprenticeship
  • IT literate

Experience

Maintenance Technician (Electrical)

The role

  • When authorised, carry out switching on Connect Plus Services 11kV
  • Carry out Planned Maintenance and defect repair work on a range of electrical equipment which includes Switchgear, Transformers, Pumps, Fans, VSDs, lighting and associated control gear etc.
  • Repair and maintenance of the traffic safety system on the approach to the Dartford tunnels including sensors, barriers and traffic signals.
  • Read drawings and carry out fault finding and repairs without supervision
  • Carry out all type of Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance work within the capacity of an Electrical Technician with or without direct supervision
  • To read drawings and carry out fault finding and repairs without supervision
  • Carry out any work of a manual, semi-skilled or skilled nature of any type of trade description (including “out of trade” work) under the instructions of the Shift Manager
  • Drive vehicles as required, for maintenance purposes
  • Any other duties within the capacity of a Maintenance Technician as required by the Line Managers

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Recognised Electrical Apprenticeship
  • Relevant qualifications e.g. City & Guilds
  • Current Edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations(18th Edition are Current)

Senior Site Engineer & Site Engineer

My client requires both a Site Engineer and Senior Engineer to assist them on multiple projects around the Kent area. Ideal background will be Engineers with Highways and heavy civils experience.

  • Setting out using total stations, GPS equipment, and to be able to undertake traditional setting out using profiles, batter rail and pegs
  • Read and review construction drawings
  • Undertake basic take-off’s Raising technical queries with designers and other members of the client team
  • Undertake day to day setting out duties with no supervision
  • Train, manage and mentor Junior Engineers
  • Manage and monitor all site sample / performance testing requirements and maintain records in line with the contract specification.
  • Complete hazard / risk assessments and method statements.
  • Manage the site service plans/ drawings. Issue permits accordingly.
  • Assist the site QS / Project Manager with providing the relevant information for records and claims purposes.

The candidate will require previous civil engineering experience, particularly highways schemes working for a main contractor. Must also have a CSCS card in the appropriate discipline and have a BSc/ HND/ HNC qualification or equivalent. You will require a SSTS card. Due to the nature of the role a full UK driving license.
